back up your files

I've just switched on my pc and discovered that my family Tree maker files have all gone..........i've got all the records on dozens of bits of paper.....Did I have a back up?? no of course not...who needs back up files?? John

I'm sorry to hear that, but it's been repeated time and time again on here: Back up at least once, preferably twice in different locations. Been there, got the tee shirt, once caught twice shy!

jesus man thats the first thing u learn when u were first shown how to use a comp ..... back ur files up and copy them to floppy or disc. the amount of people i have come across in work who dont even know what i am talking about makes me judder especially to think wot they have lost or rather not saved. i work in a hospital so we need that data saved. learn the basics as with everything in life we do. if we do that then we will move forward and pass that knowledge to the next one. god i sound like an old crab or a school teacher but honestly mate it is the first basic rule u learn. back it up and copy to disc as well. do u know what fragmenting ur hard drive means? lol. dont take it too seriously but learn from ur mistake that way u can pass on your knowledge. get where im coming from. mo

John Do you have some of your tree loaded on this site? If so, you should be able to export it as a GED file. May save you some typing! Steve
