Nat king cole ,singer ,And, piano virtuoso,he always said he was a musician first ,and singer second ,i have all his records and still play them a lot. Poor old sammy suffered so much because he was jewish and black.at that time you could be one ,or the other, loise armstrong was another one ,but played with all the white musical greats with no bother ,if your face fits------------.fred ptfg.

Hi Christine Nice and early LOL> Yeah Sammy Davis Jr had a terrible time with racism, I read one of his books and its incredible, but was always amazed his best friends and wives were white? Pat x

Aye Pat I think all the stars who were black were subjected to racism back then. Remember reading Sammy Davis Jnr talking about it one time. I knew N. K. Cole had been a heavy smoker but you'd never have guessed it from the velvety smoothness of his voice. Christine

Yeah Christine Wasn't that the first time some had done that? My Mum was just saying that as far as she remembers he died of cancer of the Throat, how terrible, he was almost a chain smoker his wife tried to sue the Tobacco Company and lost, she would win the new laws that came later in the America that came later. Also heard some of the Big Hotels wouldn't allow him stay because of his colour although not in England, as far as she knows. Terrible isnt it? Pat x

Another great voice from someone who died too young. Thought it was fantastic when his daughter Natalie did the duet with her Dad years after he died. Christine

What a shame to see this thread disappear so fast. Thought some of the Mario Lanza fan club might like a little bit of velvet voiced Nat KING Cole as well. Pat x
