oh dear Joanne, what a shame... aren't people funny sometimes ? Incidentally, how do you know she deleted the emails ?

I don't have any family at all (apart from my children) I was the only child of only children. I was thrilled to bits when I found a third cousin on here, she wrote me lovely e-mails, we spoke on the phone. Then I suggested we meet and I never heard from her again and she deleted all the e-mails. Jo.

make sure you check it though Martin. I had a huge amount of information passed me by one member, but there was an innacuracy right at the beginning (there weer three people of the same surname in the same village, similar ages, and he'd picked the wrong one...), whch made me doubt the accuracy of the rest of it...

Have to admit that it was luck in asking the right people on this site. The other member provided most of the distant past history! Martin

hey Smith's aren't always impossible, I'm actually doing Ok with mine (I'm a Smith), have solid connections back to 1731, and then I get a bit stuck - there's a chap called Samuel and I can't find his birth in the PR's - but there's a 10 year gap in the PR's. There's a chain of Smith's in that village going back another 100 years, if I can just make the link with Samuel... I guess I've been lucky that mine stayed in the same villages for several gerenations. regarding the initial question, I've made contact with 4 4th cousins and one 5th (to be confirmed).

I am going to meet my 3rd cousin twice removed, on Wednesday. He is 93 and it will be the first time we have met. VERY exciting as I think he has lots of interesting info! Maz. XX

Chrissy Smith is my stepfather's surname so I haven't really pursued that part of the tree at all. Mind you, there is a Smith branch in my natural father's family as well, funnily enough ! I found out that me and my mate were related after starting looking at my natural father's side of the tree - during research I made contact with someone who had done a huge amount of research on a particular family which revealed lots of connections with people I know. Not nearly so distant as yours but I met my 2nd cousin once removed, who lives in the house that generations of my family have lived in since at least 1861.

I found out that myself and my best mate from years ago are actually 6th cousins and we never suspected we were even remotely related. Simon

I am curious to know what is the most distant relatives you have discovered and made contact with or met. I have just made contact (with somebody on this site) with a relative who shares my GGGGGGG Grandparents who were apparantly born around 1633. Don't know what number cousin it is though!!! Martin
