I have only been researching my tree for about 4 years. A friend has been doing hers for 30. Recently my Aunt (by marriage) gave me a copy of her tree to have look at. It was done by her grandmother in 1888, she didn't even have the census to go on.

Surely you must have been in England back then. How long have you been in OZ Im in NZ been here 31 years. How many names have you researched?.Did you stick to just your line or have you gone looking for names that were interesting to see if you could find anyone famous?Did you find any interesting folk?

Hallo Eveyone, I to have been doing my family research since Years back off and on.Like most of you I travelled and looked up the old records.I was bitterly disappointed whenmicro-fiche was introduced and turned out to be so tiring on the eyes.Ireally can't use it for very long. I was pleased to note comments about the LDS records I have often put threads on here warning the newcomers not to take these records as accurate.I have written to submitters about information in my ownLDS family records which I can prove from the original documents are wrong and have found that they take not the slightest bit of notice. They never correct material. I do not get on very well with the electronic sites.I just can't find my way around them.I did sign up for the PRO but I just found this so frustrating, question followed question and I did not seem to move any further forward.I don't use any of them any more.I have returned to my hands on aproach and my local Ro Best Wishes everyone Rose

Only 5 years. It is rewarding when searching the parish registers in person, as we were at Okehampton recently. The internet is brilliant in lots of ways, but the personal find, and the emotional feeling from that just have to be experienced (if practicable). :-) Joy

Margaret, been doing mine on and off for 12 years. Thank the lord for the internet! I've got more info in the last year than all the past 11 years put together. Started off going to the nearest archives which meant a big day out, but it was much more intertesting then because we got to look at the original registers. I'll never forget the the time I saw my great grandfathers actual signature on the parish register. The internet has it's benefits but its not as personal as the dogged research.
