I don't think I need to go to church to pay my respects to those who died. I also feel I am a better "christian" (for want of a better choice of terminology) than a lot of people who go to church every Sunday. My best friend is a methodist minister - he was my best man and I was his - we have discussed this subject over and over again and we both agree that there are too many people who go regularly to church and behave despicably the rest of the time. Its how you live, not where you go. My parents thought it was the right thing to do to send us to chapel every week, go to Sunday school, say our verses. Perhaps it helped make me the person I am today, but I'm afraid it only helped me to realise I neither want nor need it. I do have the utmost respect and admiration for those who are prepared to give up everything to follow what they believe in, i.e. priests etc. But its not for me. :-)

I, too, don't feel I am a worse person for not going to church. Somebody once wrote this in my autograph book: Some go to chapel to laugh and talk some go there just for a walk some go there to worship others some go there to meet their lovers but few go there to worship God This verse may be incomplete, but you will appreciate these few lines! "nothing new they could teach me", Jim ? - you should come and hear my husband preach sometime. He is one of the best preachers I've ever heard - and am not biased either!! :-) Joy
