both boys had dummies, daughter didn't. She really teases them about it! None of them sucked thumbs. Oldest son at 2 and half "gave" his to youngest in hospital when he was born (only into the crib & not directly to the baby I hasten to add!) & the youngest gave his to Father Christmas at abou the same age. |

I guess there will always be for and against, like breastfeeding or articially fed. Sylvia xxx |

Rightly or wrongly I gave my daughter a dummie. When she was a baby she started sucking her thumb so I gave her a dummie to stop her as getting rid of a dummie is far easier than stopping thumb sucking. Childrens thumbs can end up with just as many germs, more than a dummie even. My daughter is now 3 and no longer needs her dummie but I know some older children who were or are still thumb suckers and they have terribly deformed thumbs. I sure dummies are something people will always have different views on. Dawn |

Yes, revolting things aren't they. My children sucked their thumbs too but soon grew out of it. Sylvia xxx |

I must admit I don't like them, however, daughter used to suck an empty small juice bottle when she went to bed which i suppose is almost as bad - she didn't have it during the day unless in bed though, and son sucked his thumb, i sucked my thumb and two youngest grandchildren sucked theirs. What i hate is when thebaby drops the dummy and Mum picks it up and puts it in her mouth to 'clean' it. On holiday there was a child in the same complex about 2-3 years old who I never saw without her dummy, even in the pool!! I couldn't tell you wha she looked like because all you could see was this large red plastic thing. Ann Glos |

Do you dislike babies sucking dummies as much as I do? Even worse is to see a toddler sucking a dummy. None of my children needed a dummy. I cannot understand the need for one. Is the child/baby frustrated or the parent? Sylvia xxx |
