Winter Drawers Ever Near

Winter Drawers Ever Near Report 16 Nov 2004 16:59

Heard a bit of it on LBC radio while driving. Think its drivel! They should just have rereleased the original, I would go out and buy it again.

Hi all Just heard 'do they know its Christmas', as every one here seems to be saying 'Rubblish' no passion or decent singers, and very weak, they should have release the old one, I can't see this making much money. Or is me just showing my age, all the best singers seem to be around during the 60's/70's. don't want to start a riot on the boards but........does anyone agree with me??........Lilly

No it's not just age, it is c**p. My 12 year old daughter said she heard it today and thought it was rubbish (even though her beloved Busted are on it somewhere). She's now got out the Christmas CD and is singing along to the only, original version. Kxx

Katz What a sensible daughter you have lol, must admit my sixteen year old daughter ('busted fan also') said more or less the same. I don't feel so old now lol..........Lilly

Hate it!! Why not just re-release the original?? "If it ain't broke - dont fix it!!"

Simon Report 16 Nov 2004 18:29

The original - along with the whole Band Aid spectacle - was just a sickening hypocritical exercise aimed at boosting the flagging careers of some washed-up singers and bands. Seems to me this new version is much the same !

Hardly applies to the original band aid and live aid Simon. Bob Geldof didn't run himself into the ground arranging it all and going on daytime live TV saying F**k the address just give us your f*****g money now, because he wanted to sell more records. He did it because he believed (and still does) passionately about the cause. Kxx

i watched the making of the Original the other week - I dont remember seeing any 'Stars' in it that were anything other than at the height of their career.

I heard it this morning on the way to work, and thought it was absolutely horrid - but put it down to my advancing years!! The DJ's on the local station however totally agreed with me!! Here in Nottingham last week local MP's and various minor celebs made their own version (it was obviously recorded over the phone in most cases) - that at least was comical, and if released would reach No.1 locally and make a fortune for Band Aid. the trouble was, I felt, that the new artists themselves didnt truly believe in what they were singing about (and lets face it most of them would be unaware of the reason for the original release, let alone the 2nd version). Will probably buy it though, as I did the original, to swell the coffers - so come on chaps and chapesses, dig your money out and buy a copy - as one suggestion was made, use it as a drinks coaster rather than play it!! Word of warning tho if you buy it - you'll just push it up the charts and we'll have to suffer it all the way to christmas :O Just put your money in a charity box - kinder on the ears lol!

Jacqui Report 16 Nov 2004 20:27

Andy - no one in their right mind would play that out of choice, surely? Do they have to play it if it reaches No.1??? how about a Reginald Perrin Silent CD version?? Jacqui

Benjamin Report 16 Nov 2004 21:26

Band Aid 2 is the worst ever cover version ever made. It had no emotion, was out of tune, and the bells in the background were fake sounds. Plus, half of the singers in the new version were Z listers whereas in 1984 there was George Michael, Paul Weller, Bananarama etc, and Bono and The Edge from U2. Nothing beats the original, especially not this heap of c**p. It will reach 100'000'000 in the charts.

This is nothing to do with the recording, but i heard on the radio, that one of the younger singers was going aroung refering to bob geldorf as " GANDALF"

The proceeds are going to a good cause, the Sudan crisis, and good luck to those responsible for the CD. But just a small point - do those singing realise that the Sudanese themselves probably do not know it is Christmas? They are predominately Muslims who ethnically cleansed the country of Christians some time ago !
