An Olde Crone

An Olde Crone Report 17 Nov 2004 23:09

Vomited my way through five pregnancies and five lots of labour. No-one ever told me it was in my mind though because it was usually all over their shoes! The oddest thing was, HAIR set me off - the sight of a loose hair in my hairbrush or a stray hair on someone's collar had me heaving my heart up. I had absolutely no control at all, very embarrassing. And yes, all my babies had a full head of hair! I think it is extremely insulting to tell pregnant women its all in their mind - along with PMT no doubt. Nasty little attention-seekers we women, arent we.

I had terrible sickness all day with my first - it was so bad (and I was less than 7 stone before I got pregnant), and I couldn't work, that the doctor gave me some pills to take. I was 4 months pregnant when it was all over the paper that they were thalidamoid based, and could damage baby's fingers and toes! I immediately stopped taking them and doctor offered me an abortion. Decided damaged fingers and toes was nothing - but I gave up work so I could devote my pregnancy to vomiting lol To add insult to injury - the nurses tried feeding me 'Build Up' while I was in labour (talk about shutting the stable door......)- came straight back up again! 'Baby' now 24, normal digits with her own lovely baby. AND I was 7 stone a week after the birth! maggie

First pregnancy - felt queasy a lot, and as soon as I stopped feeling queasy I had a miscarriage Second pregnancy - felt Ok but went off certain foods and drinks for a while, then was fine during latter stages. Third pregnancy - felt ghastly the whole time, but then I was dealing with potty-training a toddler and coping with two seriously-ill in-laws, one of whom died while I was pregnant, so that didn't help at all. Felt absolutely fantastic as soon as I'd given birth to this one - especially because I'd decided I was only going to have two! nell

No and to rub salt on the wound I gave birth to my first daughter in 2 hrs and second in 4 minutes. My sister in law was sick from the day she was pregnant until the day she had my nephew but okay with the second son. Just the luck of the draw.

I had it very eary morning for 3 months with my first - could then eat breakfast and go to work OK. with my second I didn't have it at all, used to have a cup of tea and a dry biscuit every morning before I got up, wasn't working. My daughter had it most of the day with all her three,. It is definitely not in the mind. Ann Glos

Hi Kylie I had it with all three of my children. I remember vividly the day when I was expecting my second child, I was throwing up and my eldest then aged two stood beside me chuckling away saying, do it again, mum, do it again! Heather

I had it non stop for several months with my first two (both girls). First one I was phsically sick at the drop of a hat, lost half a stone in the first month. Couldn't stand the smell of fresh meat, couldn't drink coffee. Second one not sick quite so much but felt queasy(?) all the time. All in all must have lasted about 6 months both times With my son I can't remember having much at all. I ate a lot healthier with him and only put 5lbs on. Dianex

Kylie Poor you. Hope you're soon feeling better. I started with it before I even missed my period the first time! And it lasted up til 5 months - same as you just nauseus all day long. With the second it started at 2 months and ended at 4 months. I have heard it said that if you suffer from morning sickness your baby will be born with a head of hair. Both of mine were! lol Rosemary Definitely go off smells. Even to this day if I catch a whiff of Obsession perfume or a certain brand of deoderant I start gagging! lol Jeanette x

Jack (Sahara) Report 17 Nov 2004 09:34

I was only sick if I drank too much tea! I had a great pregnancy but piled on far too much weight (almost 4 stone), I thought I would be back to normal as soon as I had given birth, how naive, it took me a year to lose the weight!! Maybe if i'd had morning sickness I wouldn't have ended up like an elephant lol. Jack x

Kylie I had terrible sickness for the whole pregnancy with 3 out of 4 of mine. I was always between 2 or 3 stone LIGHTER at the end of the pregnancy than I had been at the beginning. Tried ginger as recommended by the midwives but it never worked. Mind you it never seemed to harm the babies as they were all good weights. Christine

The sickness I found could also be triggered by smells as well. Are we particularly sensitive to smells in pregnancy. I hope you too get over it soon. I am reliving it just thinking about it. Hugs Rose

KYLIE,i WAS SO SO ILL- I don't know how my babies had any nutrients at all. It lasted the full nine months with my first ones Enhausted thinking about it. Apparently the body ,in some people, objects to the foetus and does all it can to expell it.Or is that an Urban Myth.

Ann Report 17 Nov 2004 07:53

Kylie, I am 14 weeks pregnant, have had it every morning since week 5. Same with my first, it lasted until about 20 weeks. I think it is the worst part of pregnancy, even labour does not seem so bad because at least that doesnot go on for weeks and they can give you something for the pain. I hate the tiredness that goes with the sickness, I just can't wait for it to pass. Sorry you are also suffering, we'll just have to hang in there together!!!
