Paul Are you suggesting that there should not be rules for anything?

Unknown Report 17 Nov 2004 22:35

Not at all, I just don't think a man should be condemded as a prima donna/thug for committing the odd foul here and there

I totally agree with Lynda, but if we did walk off the pitch, I bet the authorities would come down on England like a ton of bricks, totally ignoring the reason why it was done.

Paul, An occasional and accidental foul is forgivable. I can't say permissable. But some of what I saw tonight was deliberate. As for "a little agression" I am not a Football Fan, I am a Rugby Fan. Even there there are Rules which have to be observed.

Well my lot have stopped shouting at the tv.... They say the goalie was our best player. Pat

oh now you've made me laugh. I'm not a rugby fan, so won't comment too much on what I don;t know too much about. However, I've watched a few rugby matches, and I've yet to see one where one of "gentlemen" players hasn't thumped or stamped on another. Am sure there must be something in the rules about it. Anyway, you've tried and failed to distract from what I was trying to say initially. The issue wasn't what happened on the pitch - it was the appalling racism coming from the Spanish supporters.

Pat, you can tell how good we were by the fact I've spent so much time on here. We were bleedin awful. Not one shot on target.

Unknown Report 17 Nov 2004 22:46

Oops I spent so much time on here I missed the final result.

Paul. Yes they played like, well can't think of anything, and to think they earn all that money for doing that..!!!!!! those spainards like to make a big thing of a tackle, don't they. Pat

We lost 1-0, and that flattered us.

Does anyone agree with Clement Freud who described football as " a game for hooligans" ? Len

Unknown

Unknown Report 17 Nov 2004 23:04

No, I don't agree either. I've been involved with football most of my life, and I See good players and bad players... very few hooligans. I've seen more violence in Rugby than football (just look at their faces !!).

Unknown

Unknown Report 17 Nov 2004 23:14

Yes but Paul The difference is that Rugby is a Contact Sport while Football is ideally a Game of Skill. The best footballers would never need to make contact with another player. Oh, and, of course, in Rugby the Violence is on the field, not in the Stands.

Unknown Report 17 Nov 2004 23:15

I think you're thinking of Basketball :) Football has always been a contact sport.

Unknown

Unknown Report 17 Nov 2004 23:18

Paul I didn't say it isn't but surely the best footballer wouldn't let an opponent near him when he has the ball. And would pass it to his equally skilful Team mate if one did.

I love contact sport. Want to wrestle, Lynda ? I promise you would win len

Unknown Report 17 Nov 2004 23:25

Len!! You wash your mouth out with soap and water. Bloomin' football hooligan.

Unknown Report 17 Nov 2004 23:32

Unknown Report 17 Nov 2004 23:41

Will you two behave please, this was supposed to be a serious thread about racism, instead it's been hijacked to talk about whether footballers are overpaid, whether there's too much fouling, and now mud/jelly wristling !! Disgraceful !!
