As a trustee of a local history society, my advice is like CB's and Mr Punch's on marriage - DON'T! A website that could be added to is fine, but books cost. If you publish yourself, you have to find the funds for printing, and believe me, it is not cheap, especially for short print runs. You then have to get people to buy the book. Places like Waterstones and Smiths won't touch it with a barge-pole. If you find a bookseller, they'll want a 40% rake off. A few months down the line, somebody has several boxes of books cluttering a spare room or garage. I know this is extremely negative, but I could also show you the boxes of books, quietly yellowing.... Brenda |
