After inspecting the wound the Vet said it was definitely caused by a trap - I guess he has seen enough in his time to know. As I said we back onto farm land and countryside where there are lakes and fields.

They are here my friend had a family of skunks in her back garden and was told if she puts a trap down she will be sued she had to go through the right channels to get them removed. Debs.

Anne, you dont know it was really a trap then, could it have got caught on a wire fence? or a coke can?

We don't know exactly where he got caught - only that he did. We have open land at the back of us, which leads out to a) farm land and b) private fishing lake - so it's anyones guess really. I did advise them to speak to the local RSPCA centre. It's heartbreaking to think of him out there all alone - you tear yourself apart with guilt that you weren't there to help (and it's not even my cat - but it so easily could have been).

Just found out my neighbours cat has a badly injured foot from having got caught in a trap, and had gnawed at himself to get free - going to be okay, but may need a toe removing. He's now hobbling around in 'girlie' pink bandage, feeling very sorry for himself.
