I agree, disgraceful. I wasn't swayed by the scaremongering - all my children had the MMR vaccine - as I knew the devastating effects measles can have. I just dread these illnesses getting a foothold again and killing or maiming the vulnerable members of our society. Jacquie

Well we could be on the verge of an epidemic. Uptake of the vaccination is as low as 50% is some areas, think the average is on 70 something % - target level is 98%. A lot of people don't realise how devastating measles can be. Kxx

Hi Katz, I'm a nanny. I've taken 5 of my charges for the MMR jab with no ill-effects, though that's hardly a survey sample! I have to be careful how I put this, but let's just say 'a family friend' has forked out almost £300 for private jabs. However, what isn't well-publiscised is how poorly organised these clinics can be. Both kids have had the mumps vaccine almost a year late because the clinic 'ran out of vaccine'--though they still managed to cash the cheque on time! This is appalling as it means that all the children who attend that clinic are not fully vaccinated for almost a year after all the kids who have had the MMR as a triple. We are going to be struck with a mass epidemic and it will be the fault of the private clinics who are supposed to be helping parents!

Sorry about your Grandson Carol that is so sad, I nearly lost my middle child to meningitis (the one you can't be vaccinated for though and thankfully he's totally fine now). Such awful diseases. best wishes Jacquie

Sally, did you see the programme? The doctor that started this scare put the theory forward that it was the live measles jab that caused inflammatory bowel disease which lead to autism. He didn't actually have any proof of this, in fact his own lab failed to find any trace of the measles virus in the samples (which according to his theory would have been there) (he also blamed the method of the test which previously he had signed off on claiming it was an accurate type test which was used for other things) 9 months before this hit the fan this doctor and the hospital applied for a patent for their own alternative measles jab.. the research only came about from solicitors who were trying to sue blaming the MMR for autism and wanted some evidence. he is currently in America working for some institute that is quite happy to sell pills and potions which apparantly help autism when there has been no research done on it at all. Fleecing the most vulnerable for monetary gain. I hope this was widely watched and that the uptake of MMR increases again - measles can just be too horrible. Kxx

Hi Katz, no I missed the programme, so thanks for filling me in. Looks like an awful lot of people have made a huge amount of money from scare-mongering. I wonder how they can live with themselves, knowing their irresponsible 'research' had led to countless children being permanently damaged through not being vaccinated against measles, mumps or rubella.

I didn't see the programme but i understand why people are worried.the MMR scare started when i was due to get my youngest done but we still had her vaccinated, like others on this thread we had seen the devastating effects of meningitis and would do anything to protect our children from a terrible disease
