Yes some of my rellies were baptised at 8 yrs old! Some of mine bolted the stable door after the horse had bolted too (marrying after babies were born). Jacquie

Not all of what appears on IGI site is accurate, people have been allowed to add details which are misleading, so check details for yourself. Also mormon records taken from parish records show baptism dates rather than births, and children can be baptised years old, sometimes a family did a 'job lot'

Not uncommon at all to have children before marriage, even back then. But it was still scandalous. My great grandmother and her siblings were all illegimate. Their mother never married. This was in Northern Ireland in the 1870/80s. The stigma they must have had!

Sean, It was not uncommon for the first child to beat the Vicar. Especially in farming communities children were the future workforce and retirement plan so it was always wise to know your chosen one was fertile before tying the knot. Good hunting Jim

Managed to find my gg granddads birth certificate…details as follows PATRICK ROONEY BORN 1869 SCOTSTOWN co MONAGHAN , FATHER PATRICK ROONEY , MOTHER ELLEN MCKENNA Was really exited that I found this out…I knew he had brothers and sisters so I carried on researching and I found this…. JAMES ROONEY BORN 1865 SCOTSTOWN CO MONAGHAN , FATHER AND MOTHER THE SAME…. BRIDGET ROONEY BORNS SCOTSTOWN CO MONAGHAN 1871,FATHER AND MOTHER THE SAME…. So I thought …..yippee I have found his brother and sister…then I found out Patrick and ellen were married in 1870… so would they have had children before they were married?,,,I got all this info of the morman website …church of the latter day saints…a lot of there dates have the following << >> between them…does this mean they are not sure of the exact date?… If you were me..would you presume you had found his brother and sister or would you be suspicious?…please give me your comments…was excited a week ago , now feeling rather deflated…L sean
