How many people know the father and not the mother

There's always a possibility that her mother died while she was young, you could check out deaths in the daughter's surname for the period and see if any are in the right area. Best bet is to track down the family 1841/51 - possibly other children in the household born later will have her name on their birth certs. nell

Hi Have you tried an 1851 census search on her father and her, they might be in the same house, or a parish record lookup for her baptism will name the mother.also the other place to look is the igi records on family search, though they aren't 100% accurate but it does give a starting point to cross reference hope this helps sandra

Hi all, I have been trying to trace My Great Grandma she was born 1836 (well just my luck could have been a year later eh.) anyway when she married in 1856 she gave her father's name on certificate but, she was brought up with a different name. I have been searching for her mum for 2 years now with no success. Can anyone give me any ideas??
