Hi, Im new and Im wondering how the message system works. Does the "genesreunited" crew notify us by email if someone sends us a message? Or do they have to log into the site directly to know there is a message there Im desperately waiting on a response from Clair Coppin at the moment. Thanks Alice

Of course, Clare can only reply if she is a fully paid up member - unless you put your personal e-mail address in the message. Maz. XX

sorry Alice but I don't know if you can. In the 'old days' messages went straight to the recipient's personal e-mail, so you could reply direct. Nowadays all messages are routed via the Genes Contact Centre, with no personal e-mail addresses attached. The only thing you can do is to include your e-mail address in your message. Remember that Genes won't let you type hot mail or ya hoo as one word, and you can't use the 'at sign' in messages, or (.)co(.)uk without brackets. For example you might have to type fredbloggs(atsign)ya hoo(.)co(.)uk for it to reach her in any understandable form. Just add a note for her to remove spaces and brackets (and use a REAL at sign!) when she replies. Hope this helps. Maz. XX

Sorry, not too sure on the ins and outs but I think that full membership just allows you to post on certain boards and to e-mail other site users, so think the answer is Yes! Maz. XX

Alice I know some people do not or cannot reply to the messages but also they could be on holiday or having their computer repaired. It's hard when you are waiting for a reply I know but give them time and if all else fails try sending another message. Good luck Pat

A bit of info on what you can do when not a member! A month or so ago, I let my paid membership lapse to see what happened. I couldn't instigate communication with anyone, as expected, couldn't view other peoples tree, although permission had been previousy granted, BUT I could reply to messages and keep a correspondance going once it had got started, all through GR. So that isn't the reason why people don't reply!! Sue

they should put in a change so you can see if a person is a full member or not when you send a message.

Alice

Alice Report 20 Nov 2004 23:10

Alice, The trouble is with me that I signed on to a lot of Sites when I first started Silver Surfing. Since I joined GC as was, I have lost contact with most of the other Sites and cannot remember which ones I joined or even what my Passwords were. There could be messages there for me but I will never know. Maybe some of the people you are trying to contact have also lost remembrance of their membership here?

Alice

Alice Report 21 Nov 2004 15:41

I think thats quite possible. But I just thought even if genesreunited sent them an email saying there was a message and inviting them to re join. Then assuming they have the same email address then they would still know. Hopefully. Alice
