hi all, him indoors is buying me one for xmas. so far i have gathered [ from the housewifes bible- argos] i need 3m pixels or more. but my sons girlfriend has just got one and hers only holds about 12 photos- so would i be better getting one with more than 16mb. help- am getting totally confused. lol sue.

Sue I too would like on for Xmas but get a bit confused! lol. Sister said definitely over 3m pixels. And a friend of mine bought a new memory card for his. Think it cost him about 60 quid Jeanette x

Mine is a Fuji FinePix A330 with 3.2 mega pixels (i.e. at least 3 million pixels), just bought it recently and it's superb. I'm going to need to get a bigger card for the camera as I can only store 10 pics at highest quality on there. Also go for an optical zoom if you can (not the same as a digital zoom - where photo quality is lost). It is a case of shopping around, mine cost me £108 from cameras2u(.)com

Jeanette, Tis a website - www.cameras2u(.)com. Just used it yesterday taking shots over Lake Windermere. If you like I can send a couple of photos and then you can get an idea on what sort of quality you are getting. Mine is really easy to use and saving your pics to your PC is straightforward as well (IMHO!!) Andy

I bought a 256mb memory card. Ive got about 90ish pics on there all high quality. With lads of room for more It really pays to get a large memory, and rechargable batteries suitable for the camera,. Elaine x

memory cards for most cameras can be bought on 7dayshop(.)com much more cheaply than in the shops. you will always get a small card with the camera but will need to buy a larger one to use as well. Buy at least a 64, bigger iff you can afford it. Also, if it takes AA re-chargeables get a spare set, they always go when you least want them to. And 3mp is the absolute minimum. An optical Zoom, not a digital zoom so you can get in close. Ann Glos

I have just used some pics (loaded onto computer from new digital camera) to print out some greetings cards (you can buy glossy paper ready scored for fold) and have been having fun rotating pics so that they printed right side up!! I wish we'd had more pics on the chip that we bought (the camera was a snip, in New Orleans) but they are easy to wipe clean and re-use, having loaded the old pics onto computer, you can also get a CD of them cheaply which could be sent to friends/relatives and they could save them in one of their folders. Having had a family wedding this year, it's been great. GO FOR IT!

Lou, Mine allows you to take up to 60secs of movie footage although I don't think I can get sound, not done so yet.

Also for rechargeable batteries, go for Nickel Metalhydride (NiMH) not Nickel Cadmium (NiCAD).

Jeanette It cost about £50-£60. cant really remember. But mine is compactflash & they are being replaced with different cards for different cameras. Have a look on google eg pc world to get prices ect. Elaine x

oooooooooooooh thanks everyone. have been comparing prices today, looked on jessops site. i have seen one i fancy. it is a canon sureshot, £50 cheaper than the previously mentioned 'bible' and i would also get a tripod and an extra 64 mb memory card ! think it will take some beating - oh and its 3.2 pixels- and takes aa batteries, no expensive camera batteries. sue.

How long do batteries last these days, as I was told digital cameras were heavy on the juice?

we have rechargable ones but u have to make sure u get the correct ones otherwise they r a waste of time

Sue will you ever use a tripod? A 64 Mb card is only worth about £6. Certainly get one that takes AA batteries and a popular card like SD or compactflash. Optical zoom is better than digital. 3x usually ok. Macro is also a usefull feature (closeups) . 3 megapixel is also ok for most users and should give good results up to A4. Major fault with Digital cameras is shutter delay so dont expect great results at fast moving sports. Bob

Hi Sue, When I decided to buy a digital camera I looked at http://cameras(.)about(.)com/. You will find every thing that you will need to know. I then checked out all the camera stores on line to find the best deal. I bought a Nikon Coolpix 3200 and I am very pleased with it. I can get around 18 photos on the camera at a time. It comes with a bettery charger and I was surprised at how long they last. I hope you have as much fun with your new camera as I have.
