With Dixons phasing out VCRs, how long will it be until it becomes a more specialist piece of domestic equipment?

My daughter has got just about every disney film ever made - on video cassette!!! I hope they remain for a few years yet, it would cost a fortune to upgrade to DVD. Jack x

Don't think they'll disappear permanently. Same as with the record player - you can still get those in places. Kxx

We have a music centre that plays records as well as audio cassettes and CDs. There's a shop in Fordingbride that sells stylus. Joy

Currys and John Lewis have said they have no plans to phase out VCRs yet. Mind you, we can't blame manufacturers, it is the consumer who is buying DVDs instead of VCRs..The same thing is happening with cameras. You can't expect retailers/manufacturers to keep a stock in just in case a couple of people want to buy them. What annoys me is the phasing out of spare parts for the ones already in existence. The next things to go will be floppy discs!! Ann Glos

Called into Dixons yesterday to see if they were flogging any vcrs off cheap (!) but the man said they haven't got ANY in the company at all now!! The only ones they will get are to be sold in packages (TV, dvd, vcr, speakers etc) so THAT'S IT!!!! He couldn't believe it himself - he remembered selling his first one in 1978 and is just gobsmacked that something that only started then is being scrapped now! Maz. XX

Just brought one of those Panosonic DVD Ram recorders. Set us back a few bob, $2,000,00 Australian, but we can now copy all our old VHS onto DVD. 6 Hrs of VHS copied onto one DVD. ( fantastic ) We can program the DVD to copy the VHS at 2 hrs ( Great qaulity.) 4 Hrs ( Good quality.) or 6 Hrs ( Reasonable quality.) Also good for direct copying from your Video Camera to DVD. They say the old VHS is surpose to start fading after a few years, and we didnt want to lose any of our special memories of our children, and there children. I know this sounds a lot of money, but you cant replace precious memories. So it was worth it to us. Tony. Oz
