I've ruined the yorkshire pud

The only time I tried them they rose in the middle and not the sides, didn't hold the gravy too well. Those lorries with Aunt Bessies all over the side, do you think that is all they have in them?!

Great, thanks every one. I am not going to give up. I will keep trying to make them until they are perrrfect. Hubby has eaten it though and says its really nice.... Hmmm I wonder what he is after for dessert!! LOL

Yes forgot that. If I've made the batter up early I put it in the fridge. The Aunty Bessie ones are quite good. However, my family can tell when I've cheated.

It's easy. For 4 people: 3 oz plain flour, 1 egg, 3fl oz milk, 2fl oz water, salt & fresh milled pepper 2 tablespoons of beef dripping for the tin. Sieve the flour and salt, add the rest of the ingredients. The more you mix it the lighter it becomes. I find that a shallow tin is best then it cooks more evenly. Put the tin in the oven at 220 degrees and get it really hot. Pour the batter in pop it in the oven for about 25/30 mins and it will come out huge, lovely. If you have to open the oven door don't do it for at least the first 10 minutes while its cooking, that's what makes it flat. Another tip is if you are having trouble doing one large one is to get a cake/bun tin and make individual ones. They only take about 15 mins. Let me know how you get on.

According to my Oracle the secrets are 3 1. Use plain flour 2. Mix in a metal container 3. Preheat the oil in the oven I usually fail too. :-(((

After making the batter leave in fridge for about an hour, and then pour into patty tins where the oil is very very hot.

Not that I am boasting or anything .. but I am a pretty good cook .... the trick behind yorkshires is to make sure that the oven is hot and the oil (or butter) is sizzling too .... everyone has different tips about the recipe ... I put a little suet in the mixture as well .. helps them rise.

My Mum makes fab yorkshire pubs .. she puts ale in the mistures before they go in the oven .. llok more like hats when they come out

best to buy the ready made ones.can make real yorkshire but haven't done them for a long time and have forgottenxxxxx(:

I only ever buy Aunt Bessies, but people at work told me to have a go at making my own. BIG MISTAKE... never again, hubby says it looks great (trying to humour me I think).LOL

Please help, It was my first go at making one and its not risen very much and its gooey on the bottem. Where did i go wrong and can you give the correct way to make on please.
