My gran lived to be 97. She was very close to her cousins who all died in their 90s. My own mum is 80 and still does the crossword, irons sheets for an "elderly" neighbour, works in the church garden, goes to keep fit and makes me feel exhausted! nell

Jim, In 2002, when my gran was 98, there were, amongst others, my mum (her daughter) me, (grand daughter), my daughter (G grand daughter) and my grand daughter (GG grand daughter) 5 generations - all female!! I also know my grand daughter wasn't her first GG grandchild! Unfortunately, gran died on 31 October last year aged 99. But my mum is still concrete 'fixing' and laying enormous paving slabs at the tender age of 74!! maggie

Good for her. I wonder what her tipple is?? When my mum worked at an old peoples home a lady lived to be 101. She had a pickled onion and a half a guiness every day, she swore that was what kept her going.

No, not me. I just saw an item on the news about an old dear whose 90th birthday was celebrated by 5 Generations.
