Great Expectations is a good read. I did it at school for 'O' levels (1956), and later at evening class for 'A' level (1974) Ann Glos

I bunked off most of year 11 myself (5th year in those days!) and managed to pass English with flying colours, scrape through with Maths and French and failed the rest! lol Hubby hardly ever went to school. He keeps saying it's not what you know but who you know. I keep telling him never to utter those words infront of Rosie! lol Well it's French homework tonight. I get let off this subject cos our neighbour has a French degree and has offered to help with her coursework. Phew! Jeanette x

Steph I was good at English but not Lit unfortunately. I wish you had been here at the weekend! lol. The work has been handed in now so fingers crossed. It's just this sheet that told them what they were looking for. It seemed to me to be worded for much older students. It's hardly surprising she's got behind. I would have been put off myself. Having said that, The 2 chapters I had to read from Great Expectations were really gripping. I was never much of a reader when I was younger but I might be prepared to give it a go now! lol. And surprisingly the knowledge that I have picked up doing my family history came in very useful. Jeanette x

Found out at parents evening that my daughter is way behind in every subject and she's supposed to be doing her GCSE's next year. So on Sunday I voluteered to help with her English coursework thinking it would be straightforward English but it was Literature. Yuck! They were given a sheet telling them what they had to discuss in order to get grades C, B, A or A plus. Now I'm not the brainiest person nor the daftest but even I had difficulty understanding what they wanted. So how on earth do they expect 15 year olds to understand? Jeanette x
