My Mum is taking the kids on Santas train on the North Yorkshire Railway. They are going from Grosmont to Goathland. Can anyone recommend a pub/tea room/cafe that sells hot and cold food in the area on a lunchtime. Thanks. Jeanette x

Hi Jeanette, When do you need an answer by? My Dad lives near there so I can give them a ring if you like, but won't be until tomorrow probably. Also, how about telephoning the local Tourist Information Office for that area? - Whitby I would think (01947 602674) - they would probably have more up-to-date info than my Dad - he'd probably send you to a cafe that was destroyed in the war!!! LOL Carole

Jeanette Goathland is where they film Heartbeat and also the station that is Hogsmeade in Harry Potter. Try the "Aidensfield Arms" or the Goathland Hotel to give it its correct name. They do allow children in and I'm sure they do food. Expect it to be busy though, it was when we went last year. Margaret

Hi Jeanette, I was over that way a couple of weekends ago. Although I don't have a specific recommendation, I'm pretty certain there is a cafe on Grosmont platform. There is also another cafe just down the street, which doubles up as an art/craft shop. The Station Tavern is also next to the railway in Grosmont. I'm struggling to think of places in Goathland, but there will be places as it's a bit of a tourist magnet. Andy

Thanks for answering everyone. Claire - never thought of ringing tourist info in Whitby! doh Margaret - Yes I know the 'Aidensfield Arms'. Wasn't sure if they did food though. Andy - that's it! The Station Tavern. Couldn't remember the name. Can you remember the name of the pub at the bottom of Blue Bank just before the fish and chip cafe in Sleights? Is it The Plough?
