I've mentioned google in the article I'm writing. So, so useful yet often looked over.

When I first started I googled one of the surnames I'd found, and I found a site setup by someone who turned out to be a 3rd cousin. She'd done tons of research, sent me a tree and a pedigree chart, and really helped me get going, showed me just how much you can find out. Haven't found anything since though lol

I googled my grans surname last year and found that her uncles grandson who lives in canada had listed his granddads family from the 1891 census looking for relatives in bonchurch isle of wight and my grans father was the eldest child, I nearly fell off the chair with excitment and emailed him straight away, it turned out that he had been doing a one name study for years and went back to the 1300s with the name, good eh. jenny x

McAnne's Gahan-Crazy Report 24 Nov 2004 18:06

My Mum's father died when she was 3 yrs old - we thought, that his family had links with the Quakers, so I Googled his surname........... Imagine my surprise when the first result showed his and my Nan's names in someones tree/website - that person turned out to be the husband of Mums second cousin. Contacted him who put us in touch with Mums cousin who had been searching for her for over 10 years :O And all this in my first week of research :))
