Was this in New Zealand ? - I haven't seen the news. I was speaking to my son this morning and he was telling me about an incident like this - in Wharangai I think. Apparently the swimmers weren't aware of the shark until someone from the boat from which they were diving spotted it and I don't think from what he was saying that they told the daughter in the group until they were safely on dry land. Totally agree with you, Len. It makes me weep to think how we humans sometimes treat animals. How many dolphins are still caught in tuna nets each year? - and how clever are cats to have us humans as their slaves? lol maggie

Len of the Chilterns Report 24 Nov 2004 23:41

I read an account in a scientific journal of studies being made into dolphin behaviour and intelligence. The scientists reported that they became aware that the dolphins were examining them. Its about time that humans realised that they are not the only intelligent beings on this planet. All the whale family are smart, including little porpoises up to the giant whales - and they seem to recognise humans as being reasonably intelligent. We should reciprocate. There have been stories of this rapport between the species going back thousands of years. len

On the News - a group of doplhins protected 4 swimmers from a Great White Shark by herding them together and circling around them for 40 minutes until the shark lost interest and swam away.
