Why would we have to import lard? For pastry use Trex or any type of soft marg - I use Tesco - makes melt-in-the-mouth pastry. As for Branstons since I began to make my Colonels Chutney some years ago - friends and relatives only buy Branston as a last resort! Ann

Lisa Report 25 Nov 2004 16:25

No problem if the shops do not stock it before xmas, 2 weeks ago someone was selling a £1.29 jar of Branston for £150.00 on ebay, not bad profit. Also as stated lard is not being imported anymore so according to the papers there is a shortage of mince pies, puddings etc. Have not seen that yet our safeways is packed with them. Having said that you try and buy lard anywhere it has become impossible.

Doesn't anyone like Piccalilli with their cheese as an alternative? I love branston too and coleslaw, ok not all together. I like to change around what I eat on my cheese sandwiches. Pat x

Lisa

Lisa Report 25 Nov 2004 15:21

you never know we might all be rationed on certain things.it's ridiculous storing all the branston at one factory especially when this has happened.xxxx(:
