And Why? My father used to call me TOSH for whatever reason and my grandparents used to call me Bonky loo lah - because when I was a toddler I just used to put my head down and charge - I ended up banging my head or hurting myself more times than enough.

My family call me Nell, but when I was a child I got called Claudia, Snoodlepush, Fanny-Ann and many other names by my mother - no idea why! If she called me Helen I knew she was going to tell me off. As for my father - when I was about 3 someone asked me what my name was. I went all over shy, so she said "What does Daddy call you?" whereapon I said "Beastly child!" nell

I have a nickname. It was given to me by my Uncles. who were only 1, 3, 9 and 10 yrs older than me. I was so tall and skinny at the age of 11yrs, that i got the nickname ZIP. If i stood sideways and stuck my tongue out, I would look like a ZIP fastener. My Uncles teased me rotton. I had no boobs at 13yrs. so they said I needed Drawing Ointment and Carnation Corn plaster to make them grow. They said i had sparrows kneecaps. My one Uncle who is in his early 60's Still greets me with. "Its ZZZZIIIIIIPPPPP"I go mad but i love him to bits and still kick and thump him. Jenny

Felicity Report 26 Nov 2004 04:22

My parents called me Fifi until I was about 7 or 8, and when I was about 3 my best friend was Leigh, known as Leigh-Leigh. We lived in Scarborough and my mother took us to the beach one day. When it was time to go home she stood up and called"Fifi!! Leigh-leigh!" and an elderly gentleman walking by dissolved into laughter. When he managed to contain himself he apologised and explained that he had fully expected 2 french poodles to come running, not 2 small girls!

My younger brother couldn't say Susan, the nearest he got was 'Disna' (!?!?). I was called that or Dizzy by close family for years! My younger daughter is Gemma Louise - known as Gemmy-Lou when much younger. My grandaughter Emma (7) is now known as Emmie-Lou, even though her name isn't Louise at all! Sue
