If you get a chance and you are interested in history, try and get to Pompeii. You can get a coach from Rome and it takes just over an hour to get there. Jo.

Watch your valuables- Italians aren't the problem, but African immigrants and Eastern Europeans are. they hang around on street corners with big bits of cardboard to flap in your face, of course, while you are distracted they're in your pockets. Also be very very cautious if you use the metro. Otherwise, sights are everywhere, enjoy! Lisa

Hi Brian, I went to Rome earlier this year and loved it. You will have a great time. A few tips: 1. Lesley was right. Go to the Vatican Museum early and run like hell to the Sistine Chapel. It gets really busy and it really pays off to get there first. 2. Buy a travel card and use public transport. The underground is really easy to use and you'll save a fortune. It's worth getting a guide book with an underground map in it. 3. Go to the Coliseum. It's fab. 4. Most guides books give routes to walk through the city and it is good to do at least one to get a feel for the city which isn't too big. A walk through the main squares and past all the fountains is really nice and has lots of excellent cafes and gelati bars on route. Enjoy! Louise

Brian, we were followed by an African woman down several streets, across busy roads and she matched our pace every step of the way. It was only when we got to the police station where my husband challenged her that she backed. It really shook me up. Some how they seem to know that you're a Tourist! Have a great trip Lisa
