A little moan.... about being single

Chloe. Although I love my boyfriend dearly there are days when I yearn for the single life again. I was 37 before I met him and had been on my own for 9yrs with my son. What a ball I had! Girlie nights in. Girlie nights out! No one to answer to (as if I do now) Enjoy your life now...there is nothing more attractive to a bloke than an independent, happy woman. Bev

Be a little more patient - enjoy your life as you have it all in front of you. You will meet someone, all in good time.

Ah, Chloe! I was 42 when I met my soulmate, the love of my life, after two failed marriages and umpteen "relationships" - I had never been on my own and hated the thought of it, so put up with all sorts of rubbish from men, just so I wouldn't be "lonely" - but I was! I would echo what everyone else says, enjoy your freedom, REALLY enjoy it while you can. There is nothing wrong with you at all and nothing wrong with being single. I'm on my own again after ten years and I love it. Obviously Im much older than you, but I love the freedom of doing whatever I want, when I want. It would have to be a solid-gold diamond encrusted bloke now for me to let anyone into my life. But that's cos Ive had the BEST - and I wont settle for less than that now. So don't you settle for Mr Alright just cos you're lonely - wait for Mr Right. You will be so glad you did. Good luck and enjoy! Marjorie

Silly to want to be cuddled? Oh, no, Chloe it's not. This won't be much consolation coming from an 'old fogey' I imagine, but it's really true - that you often 'find' what you're looking for when you are least looking for it. Really, I know it's been a horrible dayfor you, but if you can relax a little about it all, you never know what's round the next corner. My Wondrous Husband reappeared when I was least expecting him.

Thank you again. I would ask my mum, but well, she's a difficult person, in the sense that..... hard to explain really. She had a complicated childhood which means she's rather distant to us, leave it at that. Louise - I had my first kiss at 18 too. On my 18th birthday to be precise. An incident I'd rather forget. I'd like to say that I was drunk, but I wasn't. And I don't even know the bloke's name. Everyone says 'you're young' etc, but when you're here you don't want to be on your own. I want to be cuddled. It sounds silly I know. Thanks again Chloe

Chloe, at an age where I'm old enough to be your mum, I also echo everything that's been said so far. Also, an interesting fact that I read once was that going to the supermarket is an opportune (if not unusual) place to meet someone ..........? Has anybody here actually DONE that? Glenys x

Chloe your young, with your whole life in front of you, someone will come into your life when you least expect it. If you see someone you like ask them out. Go to the gym usually lots of nice men there. Take a cute dog for a walk, But remember your not on your own, there are lots of male/females that are single just looking for the someone special. take care sandra

Thanks everyone. Just having a particularly crap day. I have mostly girl-friends. At uni, I had a mix. The annoying thing is is that there is nothing to do around here. There's no 'potential' if you know what I mean! Blokes just SEEM to be looking for a quick shag and that's it!! The places I go, at least. And they're not seedy places either! There's this bar we like to go to in a nearby town. I'm nervous with making the first move, I guess that doesn't help. Joy of joys! Another Saturday night in with the parents! LOL. I did try and organise a trip to the cinema with a friend of mine (mosdt of my friends now live in the cities where they went to uni) but she was going shopping with her mum and didn't know how long she would take.

Chloe - I didn't meet my first serious boyfriend until I was 21. I had a number of boyfriends, some serious, some not, before I married at the age of 35 but I never lived with any of them. On the one hand I was lonely but, on the other, liked my independence. I lived on my own for 10 years and sometimes hated it, but didn't let it stop me doing things I wanted - had holidays abroad alone, went to car maintenance classes, went to the theatre and opera alone if it wasn't to the taste of current partner etc...! Also had a number of friends of different ages, and both sexes. Being single can be tough, but it can also be an opportunity to get to know yourself and test your wings! Sheila x

Chloe Easy enough, for someone old enough to be your grandmother, to say but don't rush it. he is out there somewhere. Don't look too hard or you will frighten them off. Fill your life with doing interesting things, forget the words "being single" Just be you. Do you socialize with females as well as males? you really are young and have your whole life ahead of you. I am sure it is this time of year that is getting to you, parties and all the people with partners. the feeling will pass and all of a sudden you will find someone or he will find you. be happy Ann Glos

Chloe, Being single can be tough, especailly if lots of yor mates are paired up but it can also be a lot of fun. I suggest you organise lots of girl's nights with friends. Go to the movies, invite them round for a video night and good food, meet up for shopping and post shopping snacks, etc. Once you have a really nice social life some bloke is bound to come along to spoil it!!! Hi, it's true - the "right" one will come along soon enough. I had my first girlfriend when I was 27! I married her just over a year later. She's the only person I've kissed etc! I suppose I was happy being single: reading books and studying the piano.

I HATE IT!! I really do. I don't dislike being single, I hate it! I'm 21 and I've never had a real boyfriend. In theory the last one I had was when I was 7, and that was only because I was the new girl at school! LOL. I don't like to admit this, but I've never kissed a bloke in daylight either. I just hate being single. What is so repulsive about me?? Sorry for the rant.
