I think I could well be in touch with a 9th cousin. thats a common ancestor from the middle to late 1700's. I am also in touch with a 4th cousin with a common ancestor from the late 1800's on another branch of the family. Has anyone been in contact with a distant Cousin?

I discovered a while back that an old best mate of mine is actually my 6th cousin. We obviously had no idea we were related at all !

If you look at it we are all probably distantly related to each other as the generations multiply as you go back, plus all their siblings as wel, so we are all most certainly each others 5th, 6th, 7th cousin and so on,

A 4th cousin who lives in New Zealand - I'm in England. So that's the furthest away and furthest in the other sense too.

I read the thread wrong too and was happily thinking I would be the winner - cos I'm in Somerset and I have recently been united with my uncle in South Africa. Sorry, having a dippy doodah day! Mandy :)
