I certainly think that lottery money could be better spent ... spending millions on so called "great works of art" where there is so obviously a need for money to be spent eg in some inner city areas to help young people "do something useful" would be much more beneficial to society. It is a shame that we have to rely on charities in the first place. The majority of their work should really be government funded, but I suppose they have a far higher commitment to blowing people up to able to afford money to help finance anything else. Without the majority of charities this country (and probably the world) would be in a complete and utter mess! Charity giving is really a "voluntary tax". Martin

One thing that always gets me about these shows is when they scoot around the audience demonstrating the money that's been raised by one company or another. I'm sure these companies have a huge philanthropic philosophy, and the whole exercise has nothing at all to do with flashing about a huge cardboard cheque with the company's name plastered all over it on national primetime TV.

Absolutely, Martin. So many good causes out there. Mind you, I think the fat cats and M.P.s etc of this country ought to be the first to contribute. Oh blimey, hope that doesn't start a political argument! lol :-) Glenys.

I agree The red nose day gets up my nose. Cant stand it. As they say charity begins at home and we should look after our people first. Not that I dont sympathise with the troubles of other countrys people. One instance is that in my childs school they dropped traditional Harvest festival ( proceeds go to our elderly) for Harvest for the hungry. Where we were told what each child had to bring in a certain thing and 50p to help send it abroad. I felt I had to do it as my children had been told to bring things in. And were looking forward to doing it. But it still grated on me.... Elaine x

I think its bad when people who need the help have to rely on Charity, but that aside all charities should get more coverage and help. Bev

There is absolutely no doubt that this is an extremely good cause. However, I believe that there are many other really good important charities out there which could really do with the huge financial boost and coverage that Children In Need get. I would therefore like to see other charities benefiting as well. I think it would be good to do similar fund raising for a different charity each year. What do others think? Martin
