ON sky news channel Now Anne Offends Scousers Anne Robinson has again found herself in hot water - this time after a remark about Liverpool schoolchildren. The city's council leader has demanded an apology after she joked Scouse kids are expert shoplifters. Battleaxe Anne, who hails from the city, made the comment on her BBC2 quiz show The Weakest Link. She asked maths teacher Lisa Foster, who teaches at St Benedict's Catholic College in the city's Garston district, if she taught her pupils to steal. When the teacher replied: "No", the TV presenter asked: "Well then, why are they so good at it?". Both Ms Foster and her school say they were not offended, but city council leader Mike Storey has taken exception. He stormed: "She would no doubt say it was just a bit of fun, but these slurs on the city have a drip, drip, drip effect." But a BBC spokesman said: "Anne's sharp tongue means no contestant is safe from the banter, including someone from her own town." The presenter courted controversy in 2001 when she described the Welsh as "irritating and annoying".
