Due to recent circumstances my Christmas plans have gone out of the window so I'm looking at doing something for someone else on Christmas Day. Any idea how I can go about helping at a nursing home? Any other ideas? Becx

Hi Bec you can contact nursing homes direct and ask if they want any help, or what about contacting age concerned and visiting someone in their home, or the hospital geriatric ward, salvation army homeless, their are so many good causes and lots of lonely people out their that won't see anyone. whatever you do lets us know how it goes sandra

Bec - you are a good girl - and I am sure any nursing home would love to have someone visit them - a lot of the old dears dont have family close at hand and they can pretend for a wee while that they have family.

Bec....you can always go cook for the homeless. I think most towns advertise for help. I've done it when I lived alone and had a brill time....try your local libarary for info.

I thought about a homeless charity but the one nearest to me is probably quite fair away and I don't drive. I hadn't thought about the hospital - good idea. Will check the bus timetable and see if they're running Christmas Day. There is actually a nursing home up the road from me (I can see it from my window) and I use to go there when I was younger with my mum to sit with the old people but not sure if they'd welcome a virtual stranger. Will do some research. Thanks everyone
