With all this new technology, is it worth the while (and money) for someone to sit for a good old fashioned painted portrait anymore?

I loved the way they got to know them a bit and put so much time and some of the celebs character into each pic. Photos are so 'ten a penny' now, how special must it be to have someone take all that trouble to immortalise you!!

One may now take a photo and print it out to look like an oil painting. It is even possible to print it on canvas or fabric (possibly also onto a wooden panel or glass). I have done it and transferred a number of prints from my family tree photos onto fabric and Mary, my wife, made a patchwork quilt for my birthday. len
