Hi, Many thanks for this: my worry is that I will be left in limbo-land not knowing if my sister receives the letter or not. As this may take sometime, I'm trying to go it alone - the myfolks.co.uk website looks especially useful, but is this expensive? Obviously, I'm willing to pay, but being a penniless student I need to decide on the best services rather than throw money at whatever website promises assistance! Has anybody had success leaving messages in local newspapers? I understand the Daily Mail has a column for this kind of thing, but I'm not sure if it's legal to go about printing the birth name of my adopted siblings due to confidentiality. Thanks again, Louise

Hi Loiuse, First thing to do is make an appointment with the social worker and ask her to check all the records that they have in this case, even if the original social worker has left there should be records of what has been done so far in this case. If your sister has also been in touch with them maybe they have a recent name and address, if not they know she wishes to make contact with you and may trace her for you (a lot easier as they have her new name) they agreed to find our sister for us, but to be honest they took so long I traced them myself in the end. Also think i may have given these to you but try www.myfolks(.)co.uk www.missing-you(.)net www.lookupuk(.)co.uk Norcap and Southport both have contact registers but looking at the statistics they do no manage to re-unite may familes, but could be worth a try.Think your best bet is to persue Social services and post as many messages on the boards that you can. Good Luck with your search. Sheila

Hi, I am attempting to locate my adopted brother and sister: a social worker has passed a letter on, but the only problem is that she thinks the other social worker that contacted her originally might have left, and it might be difficult to get the letter sent to my adopted sister. The situation is that I only found out my adopted sister had attempted to make contact about a year afterwards! All I know is her birth name, age, and the area she was adopted. Are there any other avenues I can explore? This website has not turned up anything, and I have registered on about three others, but I don't know where to begin. Is the Adoption Contact Register useful even if you don't know their post-adoptive surname? Any help would be appreciated. :)
