I put mine in a jar and give them to the grand-daughter's for holidays or Christmas. Definitely don't want them phased out. When they changed to decimal currency, way back when, a loaf of bread went from 10d to 10p overnight. Now that's rounding up gone mad. Jan

Talking of Two pound coins, has any one got any of the" Bill of Rights" Bicentenery issues?

Have you noticed that brand new shiny 1's and 2p's quite often dont work in vending machines? they appear to be magnetic, which wears off once the shine goes off.......they are only copper plated........

Yes I have one of those little bags to which had all the different Btritish coins in it. Only thing is I've misplaced it and it has full and half sovereigns in it too. Am I in trouble or what?

About the same size as an old sixpence, Winter. I made a tiny felt purse, just big enough to hold a couple, and still have it somewhere. Also a portcullis threppny bit, that I never did get round to changing. Must be worth at least 30p (six shillings!) now. B

I remember farthings. Didn't they have a robin on one side of the coin. They were slightly bigger than a 5p but in bronze.

I must be getting old I was upset when 1/2p was phased out. Out went the 1/2p sweets too. As said getting rid of small change will hike prices to the nearest round number. Elaine x

I see that there is a suggestion to get rid of 1 and 2 p's...because they are a nuisance......if this happens EVERY price increase will be the equivalent of £/20 (5p)or one shilling in old money.. each fuel price increase could be at least 5p per litre........or 22pence, approx per gallon...nearly 5/- in old money, THIS, we do NOT want.........Ps, I recall paying less than 5/- for a GALLON of petrol.........good old Benzole!

All my loose change goes in a huge jar. Save it up for months and then as last year when we took our grandson on holiday, we visited the penny arcades and let him run riot with the 2ps. The rest went into their bank accounts. PS Nicola what is a 3p is that new currency.

You'd be surprised how much you get. :-) oops, have corrected it.

We've got one of those enormous brandy bottles that we put ours in. But we just sling any loose change in from 1p to £2. Last time we emptied it there was £600 in it. We treat ourselves to a new tv. Jeanette x

What do you do with yours? I have a big tub which is just full of pennies. Must be about £20.00 in there.
