When my husband was in Wilkinsons the other day they told him that by February 2005 the only cards that would be accepted are chip and pin cards. I don't have one :o( Does that mean I can't use my debit card any more? My nearly 88 year old Mum-in-law is terrified - now they've shut her local post office she gets her cash from Sainsburys, using cashback, when she does her shopping. Her pension is paid directly into the bank which is an awkward bus ride from her home. She cannot remember her pin number, and I'm sure there are many more like her, what are they to do? Sorry to have hi-jacked your thread :o) Sue

Are you saying that they are charging Extra, for the chip n pin service? or that they get a commision from it? I know that safeway/ morrison absorb the card charge........ Ie. what you spend is what you pay....... Bob

My local shop is Somerfield. They have just started the chip n pin service. On the front of the machine it says (in very small print) ....Somerfield get 2% of the final total. So!!!! I refuse to put my number in and make the Q wait for one min while the machine allows me to sign. While we r all waiting, I tell the Q why Im doing this. I may have this wrong but Im going in there tomorrow WITH MY GLASSES. We still have the choice but wont have in the new year.
