We still give presents at birthdays and make them a bit more valuable in lieu of xmas. If you have a big crowd at xmas, getting one present for a person is a good idea, but when you don't get everyone together it can't be done. When postage is involved too, it seems a bit daft sending money or a token for X pounds, with them doing the same for you!!.

Hi all I don't think there is an easy answer to all this. I would hate to not be able to pick out something nice for my Mum and Dad and brothers and sisters in law. I don't spend a lot but put a great deal of thought into each and every gift. I try my best with the kids but their minds change so often its hard to keep up. Lynne

Christmas just would'nt be Christmas without giving and receiving presents, so we made a pact when the grandchildren came along that we spend no more than £5 on each other. Jo.

As we have a large Family group at Christmas, it was getting ridiculos opening presents, and would go into the early hours of the next morning after Christmas day. We have now what we call " Criss Cringle". As there are 15 Adults in our lot at Christmas, and 20 Children under 12 including Grandchildren. We put the names of all adults in a Santa Hat, one month before Christmas. Each Adult picks out a name, and that person gets to buy a present for Christmas for the person he/she picked out of the hat. We have a limit per person $30:00 Aus. This present is given to the person selected from the whole 15 Adults. The Children get as per normal until they turn 16, or working, then they join the Adults. Both myself and my partner have agreed not to get each other anything and to treat ourselves to a weekend away after Christmas! It seems silly buying each other anything when it is only going to be bought out of our money anyway!! But if he hasnt got me that ring I want there will be trouble!!! (only kidding.....not)

We had something similar when my children were small - but limited to a set sum - £1 is fun - you really have to be a bit ingenious to buy or make something with that sort of limit. Magsxx

How many other have a xmas present pact? We have made a pact amongst the adults, not to exchange presents at xmas, the children still get something though. Makes it less of a headache at this time of year. Val
