Ramblin Rose

Ramblin Rose Report 7 Dec 2004 09:00

I do,I tried to learn with Mavis Bacon, but got on quicker by myself. All the wrong fingers on the wrong keys, but I've done it for so many years I can't correct it now.Still, it works, and that is all that matters,-Rose I don't have a mouse as such,I have one of these really touch sensitive jobs and it took a while to convert frommy old puter. If I inadvertantly brush my finger over the mouse area I can lose work or make a right bodge of something I've spent ages on. Hs anyone still got their old typewriter? I tried to use mine a while back justfor fun and jambed my fingers painfully BETWEEN the keys. How on earth did we managed with them

Good on you Daniel I learnt typing at school and being one of four boys in a class of girls wasn't a problem - we sort of set a trend in the early sixties with boys doing a commercial course of bookkeeping, shorthand and typing etc.. The keyboard was covered so that we couldn't see our fingers. As for the shorthand I couldn't get my head around it and was able to drop a course in my third year at high school. I was never a fast typist but have been a receptionist for a couple of years. John

Yes. My husband does, too, with one finger from each hand. I think many people type quite quickly with one finger from each hand. I think children from a very young age now type with both hands. :-) Joy (always smiling ... well, wasn't yesterday or today am cos I had a really nasty tummy upset!!)

I type with both hands, properlyish. My father had some ex RAF typing books that he learnt from on an old Royal and my sister and I both used them. They used the old fingering, it has changed slightly to take into account extra keys now found. Still remember practising asdfa ;lkj; asdfa ;lkj; It all comes in very useful for transcribing free BMD Ros

I use both hands but I'm an unorthodox typist, I have to look at the keys and don't use all my fingers, self taught. I use the Mouse on either side of the keyboard, I'm one of those Amb.........., (can't spell it) can use both hands but prefer my left side. The kids and hubby always moan at me, and put it the mouse on the right side of the keyboard as they cannot use it with their left hand. Pat x

Yes and I use the correct fingers too! I learnt at school and practised by typing up all my A-level notes on a small Olivetti portable my dad bought for me. It had a red and black ribbon so I highlighted by typing in red key words to help with my revision. I think all children should be taught the correct way - I encourage the infants at our school to use both hands. But I expect that by the time they grow up we will have computers you just have to shout at! nell
