I live in a council flat...the day after my parents went on holiday for 2 weeks, my boiler packed up! So i was left with no heating or hot water!! i phoned up the council, they wouldnt send anyone out until the following week!!! So you can imagine me...flipping out on the phone, so they said, ok we will send someone in 4 days! I ended up climbing up and fixing the boiler myself, with Daves dad on the phone helping me! lol xx

Cherie Haven't you got an emergency phone number on your rent card that you can phone and tell them that your central heating has packed up and you have no other form of heating. STRESS that you have a baby under 2 and that it is freezing in your house. Please give them a ring tonight. Sue( who used to work in a housing department)

Hi Cherie If you're going to phone the council phone the emergency number now!! My authority comes out within 2 hours for a lack of heating and hot water - especially where children are concerned:) David

thanx guys..will be on the phone first thing..as we are still paying rent i would think they should carry out emergencys especially with the kids.my mum suggested the paper thing(too shy and quiet for that)my mum usually goes mental and sorts stuff like that out as i hate to moan but am getting bit better with age.good advice thanks all.xx

Cherie, I would suggest you phone them and ask their advice. You can't stay in an unheated house with two young children especially if you have not got any supplementary heating. Can you borrow any heaters? Or can a relative put you up while it is sorted out. How long are we talking about waiting for? I would think it is the council's responsibility whether or not you have put in to buy. If necessary involve the local paper and play the sob story (child under 2) Ann Glos

Can you believe how horrid my day is..the heating has packed up brrrr how cold is it,we have no hot water either!! got three children 8,5,and almost 2,hubby away driving his lorry..as we have just put in to buy our council house all repairs have been suspended....until we purchase it or cancel the application.If we cancel they will recalculate the price and as weve just fitted a kitchen ourselves this weekend that will probably add on a couple of thousand..so catch 22!! any ideas anyone,we cannot afford to pay an engineer or get anew heating system...do you think the council should help as its an emergency we'l freeze to death if not??
