Saz Report 7 Dec 2004 15:56

Hi Rosemary I suffered from really dry feet this summer and tried all sorts of lotions & potions, pumices & foot care stuff to no avail. My feet were so dry they were white. I then read an article about certain "sturdy german mules" and their cheaper cousins, which said dry feet was a common side effect. I stopped using the mules and my feet were back to normal in less than a week. I still wear them occasionally but make sure I wear "normal" shoes in between. I also slapped loads of vaseline on at night but put some socks on over the top in case of slips, I've got a shiny bathroom floor!! Best of luck with all the advice, it's horrid to have to put up with especially when nothing seems to work. Saz

Rose, I have tried Limasol cream which does bring some relief, for my feet the chiropodist recommended Mykored, which is a liquid you drop on and that is good. I use hardly any washing up liquid (have a dishwasher). My fingers don't itch like athletes foot does, but i suppose it could be fungal. yes Foot problems are a symptom of diabetes. Ann glos

Ann I did find that when I changed my washing up liquid from the one that can strip grease and stubborn baked on whatever,my hands inproved a lot.I now use the mild skin kind brand. The dishes are just as clean as before.I do have a really bad reaction to alcohol as well.I put this down to really good indoctrination against the demon drink and try hard as I might to tell myself otherwise I still get terrible skin erruption from even one drink.Pure brain washing. Rose However you can get fungal attack on any part of your skin, not just as athletes foot on your feet.It will thicken nails and cause cracking skin.On the thread you may notice that Lamasil is recommended as treatment. It is good. My husband went to the Dr with a horrid toe nail, because I kept on till he did and tests revealed Diabetes. Apparently you can have skin probs with this too.

I visit the chiropodist every 8 weeks for treatment/toenails cut as I have horrible thickened toe nails due to fungus infection. he keeps it under contol. But I also suffer from the skin on one finger and a thumb being cracked and sore and nothing I use on them helps. it can be very painfu,. Luckily it is my left hand but is such a nuisance. how is it that these small problems cause so much hassle? Ann Glos

Yes Mary,I have tried the Lamasil course and did notice an improvement. It clears any fungal infections which get into the skin. I think it is a case of managing the condition and not letting it get too out of control. Oh! cheese grater! But I don't suppose it is any more painful than the mini sander. Thanks everyone Rose

Hi Rose Sorry to hear about your painful feet. I do suffer with hard skin on my feet and it has got to the stage of sore deep cracks on a couple of occassions. When they have been like this I have given them a good scrub with something I have that resembles a cheese grater! I then blather my feet in Atrixo hand cream. I use the cheese grater on a regular basis to try and kep it under control. Jeanette x

Rose I don't have a cure for the hard skin. But if the skin is cracked and sore I find Scholl antiseptic cream ( I hope I don't get into trouble for advertising) for cracked heels is very good. you can put it all over your feet not just on your heels. hope it helps, Rhonda

Have you been to see a chiropadist? My mother suffered from that and tried curing it hereself to no avail. She then found a really good chiropadist who gave here a course of treatment and creams and she has kept the condition under control. Just a suggestion.

Di,there is a firm which sells mini sanders for foot care.It is about the only thing which keeps it under control.I'll try and find my catalogue and get the address to you before the end of the day.I think it will really help her.Nothing else does.I've benn to dermatologists etc for years. All no good.Tell her keep off the cortizones.they thin the skin and need stronger and stronger doses and finally don't work JND Bright-Life UK Hartington Dock Liverpool L70 1AX ROSE

For years I have had really bad skin on my feet. The skin seems to harden and die at a phenominal speed.Dead skin creates hard dry layers and these get deep painful crippling splits. Moisturising creams turn the skin to leather. The only way I can cope with it is literally sanding my feet and keeping the hard skin under control with a daily pedicure. With all of my time being spent with Mum recently I had little time for myself and have to begin the treatment all over again. It is very painful. DOES ANY ONE ELSE SUFFER AND IF SO WHAT DO YOU DO .APART FROM HAVING YOUR FEET AMPUTATED Rose
