Jean, The building in Arlesey is still continuing. Before long they will have reached Stotfold and Henlow. It has got really silly now, as there won't be any green or open spaces before very long. Viv

Helen, Ashford is only one of this government's development areas. The others are The Thames Gateway, Milton keynes and that M11 Corridor. The report that I highlighted on this thread refers to the M11 development area ranging from the M25 to the Wash and going in land to about Luton/Stevenage. I know the South East Regional Assembly are considering there straturgy at the moment. It will follow the East of England one. So anyone in the south or east of England, or anywhare near, keep an eye on the local press for details. Please contact your local councillors and MPs (I know I am repeating myself but I belive this is so serious it is merited). I you are outside these areas then you will be having the same reports soon. maybe you would want some development to counter the magnet that is London? If so please make your views known on the current plans. if these go ahead then as far as I can see there won't be anyone left north of Leicestershire or west of Oxfordshire. Sorry for the length of this but we must act soon to bring some sanity to the process. Bob

I thought they were all being built in Ashford, Kent, which is massively over-developed. Large parts of it which are nice new estates now will be slums in 25 years time, sadly. there aren't the resources at present to cope with this many new people. I know people who lived there once who now find the doctors, schools etc aren't stretching fast enough and so they are moving.

I can't understand the Governments desire to overpopulate the southeast. They seem like a dumb animal bent on destroying the environment they depend upon. Do they have any idea of: Transport? Water? Medical Care? Schooling? Etc! As a Labour supporter for 30 years I'm having a rethink!

Anyone not knowing the area concerned near Stevenage may like to know that it is just beautiful. They are closing schools left right and centre in this area and I can only assume that they will build new ones just to accomodate the "new residents". How long will it be before there are no longer any green spaces left with trees, rivers and wildlife for the next generation to enjoy.

I have to document on PDF which can be downloaded from the eera web site. This gives the breakdown of numbers for each district council area. However, the document is something like 370 pages so it may take some time to download or search. Please make your opinions known to your representatives at all levels from your parish or town council to your MP. They will be in the best position to advise you on how to respond. This should be done on the form also on the EERA web site. Be careful to use the 'right language' just saying 'I disagree' or 'I do not want them here' will be ignored. The infrastructure is probably the best line to take. Where is the water comming from? Where is the rubish going? etc. Please do as much as you can. Bob

I suspect that a lot of these homes will be built at Stevenage, as if the place isn't big enough already. By the time they have finished Luton, Hitchin and Stevenage will be urban sprawl. The main roads, motorways and public services will not be able to cope with the increased traffic and people. Viv
