as some of you may have read here in the past I have a neighbour from hell..... We have had no end of problems over the past almost 5 years we have lived here...We had an extension built in the summer and the builders have just come back yesterday to take out the chimney breast in the kitchen....After they started they found a problem with the floor upstairs and had to stop to see what was what... At this point only about 1/4 of the chimney was down...She was in at that point, went out for a while came back when one of the builders was outside and said that the banging was making her unit (a dresser) move and would he move it for her away from the wall which he did.....She has now come back round 24 hours later saying she has breakages....My point is if this is the case why didn't she say about it yesterday and as it was obvious we were having work done when the builders stopped the banging to sort the floor out why didn't she move it then...She now thinks we are going to cough up for these so called breakages....Somebody has told me to tell her to contact her insurer and let them deal with it...It's just one thing after the other....I am so sick of it all...The amount of disturbance we have endured from her over the years is nobodies business....Sorry had to moan.. Diane

Blimey,What sort of builders have you got, I would have thought they would have automaticaly checked the upstairs floor and joists before doing anything and then putting up Accrows to support it. However,She,s trying it on,Surely she could have removed the contents before having it moved,if not it was at her own risk.SCREAM AT HER,Then meybe she,ll go away.Other than that tell her to "Get Knotted".Hal.

Scream away. And ignore her, she can't claim off you. she will have to claim off her insurers. They could then claim off the builders insurers. Ann Glos

Thanks for that. Somebody else has said the same and that's what I've told my husband to tell her. She is a nightmare it's one thing after the other. She causes trouble all the time. The architect said that it was ok to remove the chimney. The upstairs one was taken out a long time back, at least 20 years apparently but they hadn't taken the hearth part out and replaced it with joists. I had to go out before I totally lost it. Please if somebody wins the lottery get me another house far far away................. I will then rent this out to a load of weirdos like her.. Dianex

Just as a follow up to this the builders finished yesterday and I have this morning received in the post an extra bill from them for £183 for the extra work. I am gobsmacked, materials must have been no more than £35 and he spent about 2 full hours all in all to do it. I am going to the cab on monday to see how I stand. Diane

diane has the builder itemised the work? he hasn't charged you for doing anything next door has he? Did you have an estimate for the original work? Ann Glos

Hi Ann Have the estimate for the original work. I paid all of that apart from £300 which I had set aside to settle up when they came back to do this. Obviously this cost more than £300 so they have really had some of my money for 6 months. All in all over £12,000 The woman next door just collared my husband he told her it had to go through insurance and she said "I can't be bothered, you should be a good neighbour" meaning we should hand over what she wants, in her dreams. So as far as I am concerned thats that with her. The bill that came today just said £185 for patching up landing floor, putting new timbers for joists and also new floor covering on top and screwing down!! I can't get over it. I think I will have to find out how much 2 four foot lengths of timber for the joists and a piece of inch ply 2ft by 4ft cost. My argument is they would have had to sort the joists out anyway when the flue part of the chimney was removed. I'm really fed up Diane

Trish Report 10 Dec 2004 19:21

The wood for the joists and ply would be about £20 altogether

I thought it would be no more than £35 so I think they are definately taking the pee. I am going to pay them the £300 I owe and ask for a breakdown of that bill telling them I think it's too much for what was done and the time it took. I was really pleased with the work they did and everything and now this has soured it all. Diane

I think she should take more care of her possesions,,,if she thought the banging was causing enough vibration to cause stuff to fall off shelves etc then she should have moved, it ,, She cant be that incabable,,,,,can she?

I really have had it now. Went outside to go shopping a big chunk of dog sh*t on my step. It had all grass and everything in it. I have no grass in the front. There was also a bit of kitcken roll a little bit away that looked like it also had it on. So don't know if my husband cleared some up when he came in from work this morning, will ask when he gets up, or it's left from whoever did it. She has several dollops in the garden and the grass is the same length as the grass in the bit on my step. A bit too much of a coincidence. Have washed it all away so if any more arrives will have to get the police, again!! Wish she would grow up. I wish I could just move away...

Hi Debs, That would be great, could say it's a load of her mates if it was devil worshippers!! Really don't know why people have to be like this. My husband said it wasn't there when he came in, daughter went to work around 8.40 and it wasn't there then. I'm sure when I opened the curtains there was no sign. she went out around 10.30 and I went about 11.30 so it seems to have been around then. This is just the latest in a long line. If I could afford it would rent this out and go somewhere else, but just can't do it at this time.
