Autobiography Of A Yogi, Paramahansa Yogananda. One of those books a friend tells you is great. I keep trying to get into it. I've had it for about four years now!

Stick with it Judith otherwise you will regret it ! I did that once with "The Thorn Birds" I just couldnt get into it and ended up putting it down! Years later I read it again and got really absorbed in it! Just wish I had stuck with it in the first place

Same here Bev, which makes it all the more frustrating that that one book defeats me.

I am hooked on books anyway! Love them all, the classics included. To me there is nothing better than being curled up with a good book! My partner reckons I will read the print off a letter if I could

Mandy, I'm hooked on local history books, even more so since starting family history. Mary, I've heard that title but hadn't realised it was a real book, not a spoof.

Yes Judith we did. It was really off putting ! But my English teacher was a sweetheart out of class, and gave me a book he thought I'd enjoy ( I am ashamed to say, I can't remember what it was ! ) and I was off, I have never stopped reading since. Andrea

Did you have to read round the class Andrea? I can remember one of our teachers made us do that and I was so busy working out which bit I was going to have to read that any enjoyment of the book was completely lost.

Due to a health problem, my concentration is sometimes poor so I usually only read fiction (well that's my excuse for reading all the latest chick lit lol). I was always determined that one day ... yawn .... I would read some non-fiction .. and yay, I'm now reading a book about the Bournemouth and Christchurch Workhouse, where one of my grandfathers was born. Thought it might be boring, but it's amazing how interesting it becomes when it involves your own ancestors. Mandy :)

I love reading, and I have a few of the classic ones ( Jane Eyre etc ) but I never get round to reading them. I wonder if it is a result of being made to read at school, and I am still rebelling now !! Andrea

I once started to read a book called "The Black Alchemist" and it scared me to death so I refused to read it all! Its about Satanism and Black Magic. Dont ask me why but I have promised myself that I will one day finish it! The only problem is it is actually based on true findings by somebody called Andrew Collins! Really Scary Stuff

This thread prompted by those about books people are reading and enjoying. Someone said there were classics they felt they ought to read. I have started, and failed to 'get into' Pilgrim's Progress umpteen times, even one summer when I was laid up with a bad back and read every other item of print in the house!! Do others have the same problem, and if so with what book? Judith
