Sorry - personal and too long and involves other people. Go to the Scamorama page first.

The fact that you are receiving spam has nothing to do with GR. Your email address can pick picked up anywhere you visit on the web except for secure trusted sites. I became involved with the 419 scam a few years ago. There are many people who are 'anti-scammers' who take on the 'scammers' and cause them grief. Reporting the 419 scam to authorities is futile, they do not have the manpower or the clout to do a thing about it. These people have to be caught doing it and they move around so are almost impossible to trace. England and Holland are two of the worst places involved. Go to www.scamorama.com and read the site to see how the anti scammers work. It is hilarious even though it is serious. There are also many links to information sites if you wish to complain to someone and a great deal of information on how to protect yourself. NEVER, EVER reply to a scam/spam message - if you don't know the person emailing you or it looks suspiscious DELETE the message AT ONCE. I know of people who have lost their life savings, and a few - their lives- by getting involved with a scam. Contact me if you need more info.

These e-mails from Nigeria are a scam. Fraud is a major problem in Nigeria (lived out there for some years). It's call a 419 and is a very common way to try on obtain money from the unwary. I understand that there is way to send e-mails without having a complete address. Not computer savvy in that direction, so don't really understand it. The best way to deal with these e-mail is either contact the Special Fraud Department at Scotland Year or just simply delete it.

Ann, I have been getting loads of the low rate mortgage ones, been bouncing them back with mailwasher. As we are on the same ISP I wonder if they are the ones to blame? Have not had Viagara ones for ages but still get those offering cheap software, plus the Nigerian ones never even read them, just send them back from whence they came. Ros

I don't really think we can blame GR for this problem. I get about 5 a week, but I'm always on the web, the addresses could be picked up by anyone. My husband gets them occasionally, and he has never visitied this site!!!! Most people I work with are being plagued by them as well, and they have no connections with GR. For once I don't think we can blame GR. This paritcular message seems to have taken over from offers of Viagra. Suex

Poor old GR copping it again Rosemary. It may not be their fault. Sometimes ISP's (internet service providers) sell their email listings - or they can be hacked. Once these people have the email addresses it the same as all the paper rubbish that comes through your door. They just mail shot on mass and hope to find a gulable victim :( Sioux

I have been receiving e-mails from Nigeria which are obviously a scam.I have notified GR and would suggest that anyone who has a similar problem does the same.Obviously our e-mail addresses throUgh the site are being compromised and I want to know how these people can contact me. IF YOU ARE HAVING SIMILAR PROBLEMS GR SHOULD KNOW. fOR ONE THING HOW MANY OF US ARE INVOLVED. cAN THIS BE STOPPED/ Rose
