Chrissie, I love The day thou gavest Lord has ended, too. It has always been my favourite, plus I vow to thee my country. Christmas carols: It has to be Away in a manger, sung with children, makes me cry every time. Frances

as a child I used to love we three kings( it could be sung really loud!) now my favourite is the holly and the ivy.

I cry at most of them - but especially Once in Royal Davids City - I had been in hosp for several weeks before my son was born and had been very ill after so finally got out of hosp when he was nearly 2 weeks old - this was now the middle of December and the local Round Table were in the area playing carols - a neighbour asked them to play Once in Royal David City as my precious child had been named David. 25 years later - that carol still has the same effect on me. I love all carols - and most of them bring a lump to the throat. As for hymns - well I have to choose 'I the Lord of Sea and Sky'. it was sung at both my childrens first communions and confirmations and I chose it for my mothers funeral.

Another vote for silent night. They all make me cry, especially played by The Salvation Army.

Haven't really got a favourite carol. As far as hymns are concerned I like the one that starts 'Oh Jesus I have promised to serve thee to the end'. Not sure of the exact title. I also like Psalm 23 - The Lord's My Shepherd. Mel

Do you remember 'Tenko' when all the lady prisoners sang 'The day Thou Gavest'.....so moving.

So difficult - I like so many ... I love singing them all. O Holy night makes me go funny inside, really gets me. I love singing O come, o come, Emmanuel, on the first Sunday in Advent, and later. On Christmas Day - O come, all ye faithful, joyful and triumphant - and then I can sing yea, Lord, we greet thee, born this happy morning. When I think of Christopher's ordination 11 years ago, I can still hear the choir singing: Be still, for the presence of the Lord, the Holy One is here; Come bow before Him now with reverence and fear. In Him no sin is found, we stand on holy ground; Be still, for the presence of the Lord, the Holy One is here. Be still, for the glory of the Lord is shining all around; He burns with holy fire, with splendour He is crowned. How awesome is the sight, our radiant King of light! Maz "Make Me A Channel For Your Peace" is brilliant every time I hear it I am in tears....my favourite carol has to be the classic "Silent Night" and if children are singing it then I am in bits

Silent night, brings back so many memorys it brings tears to my eyes, at work they would come and see if it had the same effect on me each year and yes it does. ANNABEL

Favourite carol is probably Away in a Manger, sung by young children. I also love Adeste Fideles - O Come All Ye Faithful - particularly when sung in an old church when the rafters ring! St Martins or Christ Church in Epsom are good for this! We used to sing it in Latin at school. I have my CD of carols sung by Kings College choir Cambridge playing now! Sue xx

I love early English Music-David Munro etc. Steeleye Span did a beautiful version of The Holy and The Ivy with Gaudete on the reverse side.Yes I am talking a 1972 Chrysalis Record.It is still tops with me.I bring it out every year-Rose
