Scrummy Report 9 Dec 2004 19:55

I write as someone whose husband was lost from HMS Eagle in 1957. He went off in the morning, waved goodbye and I never saw him again. Being pregnant with our first child at the time things were not easy. These poor families will forever feel devasted, and just think what Xmas will mean to them. They will never get over it

It's always very sad when someone who is trying to help someone else loses their life. I hope the families get a lot of support. Chrissie

Yes I felt really sad too. Sorry you lost your husband in such tragic circumstances, such a shock for you. First time I have ever seen H.M.S Eagle mentioned by anyone else. My husband served on Eagle in 1964, but he wasn't a pilot thank goodness. Pilot's wives go through so much worry when their husbands are flying these missions, the pilots are so brave. Ann Glos

Terrible tragedy, I too heard on the news that it was a false alarm. Am thinking of those families who lost their loved ones. Jan

I think we should take our hats off to the people who risk their lives to save others. It is a terrible tragedy which is bad enough at any time but particularly at this time of the year! And I think I have got problems...certaintly puts things a little more into perspective
