i was a teenage mum . i had my 1st son when i was 17,my 2nd son when i was 19. and by the time i was 22 i had 2 more children. my son was a dad at the age of 18 and maried at 19 and now has 3 children .my daughter was a mum at 18 aswell. i wouldnt say that me and hubby are lazy!!! my mum and dad were very hard workers and although they are both now in their 70's they still work part time. i think the statistics are wrong!! i totally disagree with them. susie

My daughter unfortunatly was a teenage mother she was with a regular partner and they actually had another child 5 years later, i and my husband worked and so did my daughters partner, in fact my daughter workrd up untill she had her maternity leave i was a teenage bride and had my daughter when i was 19 i came from a family of hard workers, so i think that is rubbish i think some daughters follow in mums footsteps, mine did anyway love Helenxx

think we need to look at the way,we approach sex education. some families refuse to let their children attend these classes, when arranged at school. bryan.

Heres the full story: It's quite localised but you get the picture. TEENAGE girls living in some of the poorest areas of Wirral are seven times more likely to become pregnant than those in more affluent parts of the peninsula. Up to one in every ten girls living in the most deprived districts become pregnant before they reach 18 - a stark contrast to teens living with professional parents in well-heeled areas such as Heswall, Wallasey Village and West Kirby. All these areas have some of the lowest teen pregnancy rates in England. Despite a decline in the number of teenage conceptions across the borough since 1997, a joint report from the director of social services and the director of public health has revealed that much more work needs to be done to address the massive social divide. Jane Harvey, director of public health at Birkenhead and Wallasey Primary Care Trust, said: "It is well known that teenage pregnancy conception rates tend to be higher in areas with higher levels of deprivation. "For example, teenage girls with unemployed parents are ten times more likely to become pregnant than those with professional mothers and fathers." The new report reveals that following the launch of the national and local 'Teenage Pregnancy Strategy' in 1998, rates of pregnancy in young women have fallen in Wirral. However, Bidston, Birkenhead, Egerton and Tranmere all still have teenage pregnancy rates significantly higher than the national average with a conception rate between 70-100 per 1,000 girls. Clatterbridge, Heswall, Royden, Thurstaston and Wallasey are all wards with conception rates considered significantly lower than the English average but experts warned there were still 'hot spots' in these areas where the problem persists. The latest available figures indicate that they have gone down by 9.6% across Wirral over a four-year period, despite some wards still being significantly higher than the national average. Julia Hassall, head of children's services for Wirral council, said: "We are wholly committed to meeting the Government's national target of reducing teenage conception rates by 50% by 2010 and increasing the numbers of young parents in education, training or employment." This includes providing better contraceptive advice and facilities and working with schools and young peoples' services to ensure improved sex education is provided. There will also be better support for teenage parents to reduce the number of second pregnancies and services encouraging young people into training, education or employment

From what I've seen, it happens to any 'type' of girl, like Maz said. And where do they manage to do it, if their parents are unemployed and home all the time? Mandy :))
