Winter Drawers Ever Near

Winter Drawers Ever Near Report 14 Dec 2004 18:22

My hubby comes home at Xmas puts his keys in the drawer and that's it. Knows he will go for a few pints over Xmas but the car stays put. Freezes his little chestnuts sometimes walking home but so be it. My daughter borrowed my car this time last year. Doesn't drink. At traffic lights. Some twat jumped the lights. Not a drinker either. My daughter came one inch from losing her life. No one could believe she walked out of the car alive. The car was a write off. Who cares, it's only a piece of metal. Just think if it had been someone drunk behind the wheel there could have been more mayhem and sadness instead of happiness. Take care all. Aileen

My personal thoughts are that anyone who kills when drunk driving should be charged with manslaughter

We have zero tolerance in this country and it does not make one little bit of difference at all. People still continue to drink and drive. My heart goes out to the boy and his family. Lindy.

I know I'm being pedantic, but it's manslaughter, not murder. For murder you, must have intent to kill... I believe the term is Mens Rea. I do agree with stronger sentences though.

If using mobile phones can be made illegal, then drink driving should also, that is just as bad, even worse. Anyone agree????? Everyone says "Oh just the one pint then" but even one can make you lose control. Then they say "One more for the road".

Zero tolerance. If you're driving then don't drink. I don't drink at all when driving because am never certain how that one drink may affect me. My prayers are for that boy and his family and I hope he's ok and home in time for Christmas with his family. Kxx

It is a shame that they don't do in England what they do here from 1st Dececmber untill 3rd January they have a thing called zero tolerrance no one can drink and drive they have what they call ride programs and every night they block a road off some were and when you drive through the police put there heads right into the car if they smell drink you loose your licenc for a couple of weeks or some thing like that, and in the bars if you are the driver you get free sof drinks all night. Debs PS: Prayers to that boy and his family I lost a boyfriend in a drink and drive accident so I feel for them.

Why don't they change the law and make it illegal to drink and drive - fail a breathalyser and be banned - makes sense to me
