I haven't been celibate for very long periods of time because most of my relationships have led on from the other. As for being single now, am going to sound controversial but that certainly doesn't mean I have to be celibate. That said it doesn't mean that I won't be celibate, just that there are opportunities available... Becx |

People who know me are now clutching their sides with laughter! No Edward - that was not a mission statement on my part!! lol I know it's said that a change is good as a rest - but at my age you sometimes look forward to the rest! So - thanks but no thanks :-) Here's hoping you reach 'enlightenment'! Magsx |

Ah, Mags, you've got me by the short and curlies. The drought has lasted a couple of months but I'm in no rush to end it right now. Why, were you volunteering? In that case, I'm sorry you are already thinking twice about it! If it's any help, I really do my best to never leave a partner "hanging" as you so nicely put it! ;-) |

Edward! - you're not celibate at the moment by any chance are you?? (smiley face) With a statement like that I would imagine that any woman in her right mind would think twice about helping you end your period of abstinence! lol I think what Maggie was alluding to is that women would much prefer to forget about sex completely than be left hanging mid air by a selfish man! (blush) Your understanding of women and their needs seems to be a little limited. How can 'lousy sex' be 'quite good'??? (puzzled face) There is a whole lot of difference between having sex and making love - and as for pursuing good sex to the ends of the earth! (rofl) You don't know women at all! Magsx |

Not so much admitting one's sexual preference as admitting defeat then. Personally I prefer monogamy. |

I can't agree with Maggie's comments, especially that "... (for women) no sex is better than mediocre sex". That has to be one of the most misleading statements I've ever come across in my life. Sorry, Maggie, but there are plenty of women who go to quite some length to have sex, because even lousy sex can still be quite good. And when the sex is good, women will pursue it to the ends of the earth! |

Celibacy is a sexual preference in its own right, valid within or without an intimate relationship. |

Okay Jim, I'm going to be serious here!! (honest) Sex is different for men and women - despite medieval writings that sex is 'good' for women - this was written by men - for obvious reasons. The majority of men can use sex as a 'release' - some women can as well, but for women, under sober circumstances good sex occurs when you love the person you're with. So 'casual' sex doesn't have the same meaning/feeling for men and women. Celibacy for women rarely has anything to do with sexual preference - just no sex is better than mediocre sex!!! I'm not a man so can't really judge the 'other side'. The above was gleaned whilst studying religion believe it or not, most religions - not only Buddhism- recommend celibacy for men to reach enlightenment - very few recommend it for women lol maggie |
