Hi Nicole Do you mean you have tried only Free BMD for the death certificate or have you seen the GRO indexes? Free BMD will only give incomplete info. from 1837 - 1910 at the moment. Sorry if I've misread what you've put. Good luck Helen

My grandfather was, so I'm told, in the Merchant Navy. He apparently died from TB when my father was 6 months old (1947). However I can't find a death certificate for him on Free BMD. I have tried 1946-1983 and no result. I don't think he died in the Merchant Navy as there's no record of him on CWCG. So I was wondering if a list existed on the web somewhere of every person who had served in the MN so I could find out more info on him, in an ideal world a DoB. Does anyone have any ideas? It's frustrating not to be able to get past this fairly close relative. Thanks Nicole
