My Mum used to Love Perry Como especially those songs Marion. She'd put those slow (fall asleep ones on lol) I would always get her to play the earlier ones that I preferred "Hot Diggity Dog", "Catch A Falling Star" "Mama Loves Mambo" "Delaware" etc., I like those, maybe cause I was brought up with them. I saw Tommy Steele in the 1970's at the Pallidium as Hans Cristian Anderson a nursing friend bought tickets and brought me along, I wasn't too pushed about going as I liked the Danny Kaye film but I have to say it was Terrific, I really enjoyed it and he certainly had the energy and was actually better then Danny Kaye in my opinion. I then saw him last year in "Scrooge" Mum and I went with the children while we were in Newcastle for a few days and I have to say I think Tommy Steele is great on stage, don't think he would be as good on film, its really not the same. Oh Marion I grew up listening to Perry Como, he's my Dad's favourite. Remember standing with my Mum in the queue for tickets for Perry when he came to Gladgow in the 70's. I was so embarrassed when some lads from school walked by. My Dad's a lovely singer, problem is he thinks he is Perry Como, so I've grown up knowing all his songs. Christine

This thread has woken up some memories. Didn't see Tommy Steele on box but remember him when he sang at The Two Eyes Coffee Bar in Soho, many, many moons ago and we all used to go there in our lunch breaks from work - as well as to The Lyceum Ballroom where they had lunch time jive sessions. Having seen Tommy Steele on the tele last night got me looking for him - my friend Jeeves came to the rescue. He put me onto a very interesting website which lists a lot of the older singers who made 45's.
